The above categories (A-H) are adapted from the PRECEDE/PROCEED model (Green, Kreuter), one of several highly researched strategic planning models specific to population health management and the improvement of health, use and quality of health care, cost control and other related metrics. 

Depending on the problems, goals and solutions, HPN strategies also incorporate other relevant research (and models) including: the health belief model for health, sick-role and illness behavior;  strategies for planned change; diffusion-adoption theory (of social change) and other research.
